Newsflash

Albums and Login are temporarily disabled.

08/29/2007 - We had some issues with the Clarion site this summer.  Hackers have taken advantage of the login option where visitors could list their research interests.  We've taken that segment off-line until we find a more-secure method for posting them.

Also, we have had a problem migrating our albums to their new "home."  Please bear with us as we attempt to resolve the technical issues and bring them back on-line.

What's Hiding in Your Files? PDF Print E-mail

The Clarion County Genealogy Project is committed to providing free access to all available on-line resources for Clarion County researchers.  This project is constantly looking for new resources that can be placed on-line, but in order to do that, we need volunteers.

Would you like to help out with the Clarion County PAGenWeb Project?  There are several ways you can make additional resources available.

Right now, we could use assistance going through old postings to e-mail discussion lists and message boards to find Web site links, resources, and similar items that should be publicized here.  We'll send you a file by e-mail, along with instructions on how to accomplish the review and post the items you select.

We also have several messages posted to an old message board system that need to be reviewed and, if not on the current board, input.

Do you have some time to assist with an on-going project to help the Clarion County site?  Here are some projects that need volunteers:

Caldwell's 1877 Atlas Indexing

Through the help of several volunteers, we are creating a database of land owners, businesses, schools, and churches identified on the township, borough, and village maps in Caldwell's 1877 Historical Atlas of Clarion County.  We can provide you with photocopies of maps from which to work.  We also need proofreaders for the finished transcriptions.

Census Transcriptions

Volunteers are needed to transcribe many federal census records

Cemetery Transcriptions

Have you transcribed one of the cemeteries in the county?  Do you live in the county and are willing to do a transcription?

Church Records Transcriptions

Have you transcribed records from any of the churches in the county?  Do you live in the county and are willing to do a transcription?  Even partial transcriptions (all entries for a surname, or all entries for a specific time period) are helpful.

Newspaper Transcriptions

Many Clarion County newspapers are on microfilm.  Can you spend a few hours each month working from a microfilm at your local library?  We'd like to have obituaries, marriage notices, and other bits of interest for this site.  Because of copyright limitations, we must be careful to choose publications that are not in copyright.

Personal Communications Transcriptions

Did your ancestors leave letters, diaries, or memoirs you can transcribe?

Historic Photographs

Do you have photos of buildings, locations, or events that would be of interest to other researchers?

These are just a few of the projects that you could be involved with.  Maybe you've got an idea for a making records available on this site or you are interested in working on one of these.  Whatever your interest, please contact the Clarion County PAGenWeb Project Coordinator.
